Members' Statement

Earlier today we sent the club CEO the following request. Thank you to all our supporters.

"In accordance with Rules 206-210 of the Constitution of the Squadron and Section 249P of the Corporations Act, I attach a PDF containing signed Requests for a Members’ Statement to be given to all members as soon as practicable. There are in excess of 100 signed Requests therefore satisfying the requirements of the Constitution and the Act."

Our hope is that this information will allow all members to make an informed decision at the meeting on August 25th.

The Save Our Boatyard campaign is live

This site sets out the case for keeping the Squadron's boatyard while solving the real challenges — utilisation and membership. Please read it, and share it with fellow members before the meeting.

The 2020 Conceptual Master Plan

The Squadron's own 2020 Master Plan is worth reading in full — it isn't an outside document, it's the committee's own record of the site's constraints. It confirms the club had already looked into extending the hardstand and found current planning rules won't allow it, and it identifies the boatyard and travel lift as central to keeping members' boats maintained on site.

A letter from Iain Murray

Iain Murray — a nearly 40-year member and an owner-operator of Sydney marinas, including a working travel lift facility at The Spit — has written to raise serious concerns about the direction management is proposing for the boatyard. He points to long waiting lists as proof of demand for these facilities, and argues that pivoting to wellness or gym facilities would take the club into ventures it has neither the expertise nor the capital to run well.
